Accessibility statement
Ruhr-Universität Bochum aims to make the website "Fernerkundung in Schulen" (FIS) at https://fis.rub.de accessible in line with the national legislation transposing Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies. The relevant rules are the North Rhine-Westphalia Disability Equality Act (BGG NRW), the accessible information technology ordinance (BITV NRW) and the European standard EN 301 549 (WCAG 2.1, level AA). In addition, the site is tested against WCAG 2.2 AA.
This statement applies to the FIS website. For the rest of the university's web presence, see the accessibility statement of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (German).
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with BGG NRW, BITV NRW and EN 301 549.
Non-accessible content
The following content is not, or not verifiably, compliant.
- Videos: Videos from the catalog do not yet have captions (WCAG 1.2.2). Captions will be added once they can be stored with the videos.
- Interactive satellite tools (FIS-GIS): The tool rail, panels and layers panel have not yet been checked for contrast in dark mode or with screen readers. Maps are visual; not every map has an equivalent text alternative.
- Language markup of the tools: If a map falls back to another language, the interface may be read out in the wrong language (WCAG 3.1.2).
- Interactive exercises (H5P): We operate and maintain the exercises ourselves, but they use third-party program libraries. Their accessibility has not yet been checked individually; some exercises may contain barriers.
- Translations: The French and Estonian pages are incomplete and partly machine-translated.
Accessible alternatives
For non-accessible content, for example videos without captions, we try to provide an accessible version on request, such as a transcript or a text description. Please contact us using the details below.
How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on 2 November 2026. It is based on a self-assessment. All page types are checked with the automated tool axe-core in light and dark color mode. A manual review with a screen reader and keyboard is still outstanding. The statement is reviewed at least once a year.
